Retaining wall in progress | #week 7

Dmitris the Excavator and his team started to erect the reinforcement structure. After two weeks, more than 100 tonnes of stone had already been laid in the gabions. By hand, stone by stone. The work was unfortunately interrupted by rains every few days, but it looks like the risk of the road falling on our plot has been averted.

As well as providing support for the road and the ground beneath it, the gabions should also drain water safely should it overflow again over a plugged culvert. Not a cheap solution, but probably the only sensible one in our case.

What seems to be unbelievable is, that more 5 rows will be added on top of those three to reach the road level.

…we hope so.
