All the world is green

Of Corfu’s many qualities, greenness seems to be absolutely unique.
Thanks to the humid microclimate created inbetween of the high mountains of Epirus and the warm Ionian Sea, the whole island is extremely green all year round. Thanks to the fact that it resisted the Turkish invasion, it has preserved its forests and has not shared the fate of most Mediterranean islands.

The greenery consists mainly of oak forests with crown heights above average for the whole of Greece (see photo below), olives, of which there are more than 4 million (meaning an average of one tree in every square of 12 metres), and a whole host of Mediterranean shrubs, herbs and flowers.

“We’ll go where it’s always spring
The band is playing our song again
And all the world is green”
