Last two weeks we discussed a lot about postioning windows within 55 cm thick wall, chosing lintel finishing, weighing pros and cons.
Having window more inside than outside would have some adventages: window is easier to open, there’s more light inside, wood is also better protected from sun and rain. But house would look more like a castle from outside.
Nevertheless, lintel problem arises as well. We decided to have just one lintel above the window, like on the picture below (it’s magnificent, professionally awarded Xerolithos villa on Serifos).

We received 3 proposals, how to solve problem of the lintel when looking from outside. The most beautiful (in the middle) one is of course most expensive, but it’s still a bit cheating. Probably we couldn’t afford full marble lintel above each window.

So we would go back to the idea of moving windows towards external part. There’s only one disadvantage: a bit less light will come into the rooms. Maybe not an issue at all, since upper rooms are really light (500-1000 lx during a day), while bedrooms could be more shaded (measured lightness was 130-250 lx). The advantage is, opened windows will take less room space, which is quite important in bedrooms.

Some stonework has been done during last week.
